SouthField: More Than a Feeling

April 20, 2012

It may be the heady aroma of fresh spring air but the feeling that something special is happening at SouthField is all-pervasive. The continued good weather has kept the positive vibe going strong, and all of the builders are taking advantage of the longer days heralding the approach of summer.  Thanks to the mild winter, Southfield’s first neighborhood, SouthField Highlands, is well on track, welcoming residents of all ages to a special slice of life on the South Shore here in South Weymouth.

Construction is just the first part, and building the community is equally important.

The Highlands currently comprises four distinct residential options:  The Commons (apartments), Fairing Way (55+ living), The Meadows (townhomes, courtyard townhomes, and garden court single family homes), and Parkview Village (townhomes and single family homes). Several more neighborhoods within the Highlands will be announced soon, so stay tuned!  Each option is designed according to thoughtful design guidelines to exude that classic New England feel…with a twist.

This desire to be part of something familiar but new, with every modern amenity, has been a driving factor in attracting new homeowners to the community.  We spoke with two of our home builders, Whitman Homes and IBG, to hear about their encouraging progress.

At Whitman Homes’ Parkview Village, SouthField’s special feeling and on-site amenities have helped encourage new residents to snap up nearly all of the townhomes and single family homes in its first several phases.  At IBG’s Meadows, only a few homesites either constructed or under construction are also waiting for their new owners. With the housing market beginning to bounce back, this display of consumer faith is testament to everything that SouthField is looking to achieve.  Both Whitman Homes and IBG are responding to strong homes sales by building new neighborhoods within The Highlands that will continue to impress and satisfy the housing dreams of new prospects.

These aren’t just houses, they are a place to call home and every consideration has been taken to make sure that the space around the buildings reflects the vision of the local developers involved.

The Meadows is designed and created by IBG, a firm based in neighboring Hingham. The company works on the maxim that “the ultimate luxury is comfort” and they have delivered on that promise. Three styles of residences will be found in The Meadows (Townhomes, Courtyard Townhomes and Garden Court Single-Family Homes) and they have all been equipped to combine modern life with that sense of tradition that the South Shore is famous for.

Jane Sheehy, Director of Sales and Marketing at IBG, says that the company is  “thrilled to be part of the most dynamic and exciting master-planned community in New England.”

“We understood the vision of SouthField many years ago and, knowing the tremendous appeal it would have, became involved in the very first neighborhood,” Sheehy said. “Everything so far has exceeded our expectations and we look forward to being here for many years to come. Our newest neighborhood, scheduled for release in the next few months, will be a charming cottage community consisting of 31 small single-family homes sharing a common green and evoking traditional neighborhoods from years past.  The interest level has been truly remarkable and we can’t wait to begin building.”

Sheehy is not alone in her enthusiasm for the project.

Whitman Homes, an award-winning company from Canton, has designed and built Parkview Village, a selection of single-family homes and townhomes that also offer the comforts and requirements of 21st Century living, with energy-efficient construction that fits in perfectly with the long-term game plan of the environmentally conscious SouthField community.

Already familiar with the concept of master-planned communities, Whitman Homes has been part of a national builders’ peer group and this experience was instrumental in wanting to part of the SouthField spirit.

“We feel that SouthField offers homebuyers a great master plan that provides so many lifestyle benefits to homebuyers of all ages” said Tim Porter, VP at Whitman. “We offer many different floor plan options that appeal to young singles, professional couples, families and empty nesters. Our sales success already shows we have been attractive to this wide demographic.”  Their newest neighborhood is called Parkview Place, just across the street from Parkview Village.

Both Sheehy and Porter appreciate that there is something very unique and special going on in South Weymouth.

SouthField offers a unique opportunity to city-dwellers looking for their next move and Porter highlights the appeal of the community as “everything!”

“It’s close to Boston, commuter rail, multi-use recreation and varied types of housing” Porter says while Sheehy sees SouthField as “a lifestyle people want and have been looking for.”

“We couldn’t be happier with the excitement level and positive feedback we are receiving from people touring our homes,” she said. “SouthField is special because it is inspired by the past but designed for the future with phenomenal recreation venues, convenient commuter rail service to Boston, fabulous shopping, and an office campus all within walking distance. All age groups are attracted to SouthField because of its diversity, offering every imaginable amenity without having to drive.  The fact that it’s surrounded by hundreds of acres of undisturbed natural beauty makes it an ideal place to live.”

Something special is happening here, and we can all feel it…
