It may not be unique to New England, but being welcomed when you step over a threshold for the first time makes people feel all warm and fuzzy. Enter (l-r) Karen, Alexis, Bonnie & Mary.
They are where SouthField really begins.
Inside the SouthField Welcome Center you will find everything you need about the master-planned community: photographs, bright life-size displays, and info packages to get you started. A remarkable 3-D video shows you exactly why we are so excited about our master-planned community on the South Shore.
You will also meet our representatives. SouthField’s unofficial welcome party, they bring the development to life.
All four of our representatives live on the South Shore (one at SouthField and another in the process!). Alexis was born and raised here and now resides in Pembroke, Bonnie has been proud to call Weymouth her home for the last 36 years, Mary is one of SouthField’s first residents, and Karen may be a SouthField resident in the near future!
Alexis and Bonnie have been camped out at the Welcome Center since it was just a gleam in our eyes. They have a wealth of knowledge and experience, so it seemed only natural to ask them what they think of SouthField and their opinions on what makes SouthField such a unique place to work, relax and play.
Let’s start with an easy one. What makes SouthField so very special?
Bonnie: South Shore living offers natural beauty, history, diversity and culture. Add that to SouthField’s thoughtful master plan design, and it’s proximity to Boston, and you have a unique living opportunity.
Alexis: SouthField has attracted people with a similar mindset who desire to be a part of a community — something that has been virtually lost in the midst of our busy lifestyles. Getting back to the basics of community living and a neighbor friendly atmosphere, I believe, is one of the main reasons for the tremendous interest to live here.
Where do the majority of the people who pop into the Welcome Center come from?
Bonnie: They come from all over the Greater Boston area and the South Shore, but we also attract a number of people who have left the South Shore and want to return home.
Alexis: We even get inquires from people who were originally New Englanders and are considering moving to the first community of this type (transit-oriented development) in the region.
What do you think is a primary USP (Unique Selling Point)?
Bonnie: SouthField’s central location within the South Shore and the convenience of an adjacent Commuter Rail Station to the site — it’s a five-minute walk from our first neighborhood to the MBTA commuter train to Boston.
Alexis: SouthField is a Master Planned Community, with 1,400 acres to create neighborhoods of fabulous homes with upcoming amenities and conveniences — all within walking distance.
What else appears to make SouthField appealing to Welcome Center visitors?
Bonnie: SouthField will become a walking community. The plan is that you will be able to walk from your beautiful new home to the train station, the Village Square to shop, dine, exercise, see a movie, socialize with your friends and neighbors, play golf or watch a local team play a soccer game.
Alexis: The idea of walking to dinner, to a movie or to shop in the not too distant future is a wonderful way to stay active and go a bit green too. The need to drive will not be necessary. How nice is that? Also, the convenience of the commuter rail being so easily accessible is invaluable to the site.
What sort of reactions do you get from people during a tour?
Bonnie: (smiles) Very positive.
Alexis: I have been at the SouthField Welcome Center for over four years. When we first opened (the Center), we had only the concept and visual master plan to present to interested visitors. Since day one, visitors have shown tremendous excitement and interest in the community.
We have many new visitors that we greet at the Center daily along with many of our repeat guests that we have made good friends with over the years…whose interest has never faded! There were a lot of people waiting in the wings, and now that we can show them all the very real development at the Highlands neighborhood, the model homes see a steady flow of serious buyers. Our success was worth the wait…it’s just incredible! And SouthField is a great place to call “work.”
How important is the community to South Weymouth?
Bonnie: I think SouthField will have a very important economic impact on all three of the towns in which it is located — Weymouth, Abington and Rockland.
Alexis: Very significant. Not every town is fortunate enough to have an upgrade occur in their town as the SouthField community. SouthField is already bringing numerous jobs to the region, and we’re giving the local economy a fantastic jolt. SouthField’s new East-West Parkway connecting Route 18 to Route 3 will add life to the entire area.
What are your personal favorite parts of “New England with a twist”?
Bonnie: I like SouthField Highlands Park very much. It is lovely (and the perfect setting for all the fun events here at SouthField)!
Alexis: Being a lover of animals and wildlife, I absolutely love the way that all of SouthField’s neighborhoods will be surrounded by beautiful land area, much of it (1,000 acres) untouched or used for the recreation amenities.
Adds Alexis: The fact is that SouthField has drawn the interest of people in all age groups, which I believe adds to a much more interesting neighborhood with a healthier outlook on living.
As we finished our chat, the door opened and our greeters sprang into action. The Welcome Center is more than the just the first stop on the path to a new home or apartment, it is where we can tantalize the residential taste buds and bring the SouthField vision to life!
